Job Description: The City of Green Bay Public Works Department is seeking a Bridgetender to perform semi-skilled work involving the operation and minor maintenance of lift bridges., The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, able to work independently, and possess problem-solving ability., •Excellent benefit package., •Residency within the Green Bay corporate City limits will be required within one year of hire., •Work Schedule: Rotating shift work; 6 days on, 2 days off. Will work all 3 shifts (6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm, 10pm-6am)., Responsible for operating lift bridges in a safe and responsible manner and using diligence to avoid accidents to vessels, vehicles, and pedestrians, including keeping a log of all openings and notifies Sewer & Bridge Superintendent of any malfunctions or problems. Performs sequence of operation of bridges as required by appropriate City and Federal regulations concerning navigation. Some knowledge of mechanical and electrical system of lift bridges. Ability to make judgement decisions in operation of lift bridges, particularly under emergency conditions. Ability to work at heights over water and to perform greasing of bridge components. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and other employees. Ability to learn how to operate all lift bridges, including manual and automatic control equipment. Ability to understand oral and written instructions. Ability to work the required hours of the position., May be required to demonstrate minimum competency by successfully passing approved tests.
