Job Description: This individual administers the overall Special Olympics program for their athletes and coaches, and acts as a liaison between Special Olympics WI and key individuals within their school, organization, or agency. Program coordinator is the main point of contact for the coaches and administrators within their respective accredited program. Key Responsibilities of Program Coordinators:, Recruit athletes and coaches within their respective accredited programs., Ensure that athletes have a completed Application for Participation submitted to SOWI before they begin training., Ensure that coaches have current certification in their specific sport., Distribute and communicate vital Special Olympics information to the appropriate individuals prior to the start of any specific sport season. This would include:, Organizing equipment & “book” (the book includes sport specific rules, roster of athletes, schedules, attendance records, volunteer attendance records, athlete medicals records., Calendar of Sports Events, Aquatics, Basketball, Basketball Skills, Bowling, Bocce, Powerlifting, Softball, Tee-ball, Track & Field, Sport Participation Intent Declaration, Fall Sports Intent, Winter Sports Intent, All State Games Sports Intent, Organize Annual Sports Banquet, Forward pertinent information received from the state and/or regional office, Attend Annual Conference, Oversee the timely submission of forms required for participation in any sport offered by Special Olympics WI., Class A form from all coaches or key volunteers who work directly with the athletes during training and competition., Promote Special Olympics in the Area to insure adequate volunteers, funding and support. Participate in community sponsored events for people with intellectual disabilities and for potential volunteer groups. Serve as a public spokesperson for SOWI and the Area. Contact sites and secure contracts for practices.
