Job Description: Relief Crossing Guards cover the vacancies of regular crossing guards on an on-call, as needed basis. Relief guards receive first consideration for regular guard positions. When called, relief crossing guards work 2 - 4 1/2 hours per day dependent upon the corner where assigned. Relief crossing guards do not receive benefits., Assists children in safely crossing the street on their way to and from school. Keeps children on the curb until there is a sufficient break in traffic to allow safe crossing. Counsels children regarding unsafe behavior. Reports and discusses unsafe behavior of children to school officials. Summons emergency help if needed, such as, police or fire. Documents and reports school crossing violations made by motorists including accidents and failure to obey traffic signals.
