Job Description: POSITION NUMBER: A409 START DATE: October 29, 2012 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: This new Advisor position will serve two primary needs: 1) Support career counseling and internship opportunities. (50%) * Provide career services to Adult Degree students, including responsibility for Strong Interest inventories and provide workshops on career development. * Oversee and continue development of internship program for Adult Degree students, including working with companies, providing assessments and ensuring successful completion of internships for students. 2) Serve as an academic advisor for up to 100 returning adult students. (50%) * Advise returning adult students on academic planning, programs and requirements relevant to nontraditional degree options available through Adult Degree Programs. * Promote and support the philosophy and mission of Adult Degree Programs, the Division of Outreach and Adult Access, and university-wide initiatives related to the nontraditional student experience., Occasional travel to other UWS institutions may be necessary; a combination of daytime, evening and some weekend hours may be required to meet the needs of the program and its students.

Education Required: REQUIRED: * Master's degree in counseling, student personnel, higher education, or related field at time of application * At least three years experience in student services within a higher education environment with at least one year's experience working with internships or career counseling * Strong organizational skills and an aptitude to assess the needs of, and effectively communicate with, adult students diverse in ability, background, and academic interests * Ability to form constructive working relationships with a diverse array of students and colleagues * Familiarity with teaching and learning principles of adult education * Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills * Proficiency in commonly used technologies (e.g, Microsoft Office) and an ability to master new software applications as needed
Experience Required: PREFERRED: * Experience working within a Registrar's office * Experience working with returning adult students * Familiarity with PeopleSoft (or similar student database programs), Talisma (or similar constituency relationship management systems), and IntelliResponse (or similar knowledgebase software solutions) * Experience with Strong Interest Inventories and/or other career counseling tools and software
