Job Description: POSITION NUMBER: A454 START DATE: December, 2012 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the general direction of the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance, the Budget Director is responsible for the preparation, review, and submission of the campus operating budget. This position is responsible for conducting program, organizational, policy, and fiscal analysis. The position has administrative responsibilities for the budget function to include hiring of staff, staff development and training, performance evaluation, and implementation of corrective measures as deemed appropriate. The position of Budget Director will have the following responsibilities related to the institutional operating budget: * Assist with oversight and development of budget related policies and procedures. * Direct, coordinate and compile the annual development of the University budget including auxiliary budgets. * Develop budget calendars and pay plan timelines. * Oversee the annual operating budget process and submission of the University budget to UW System upon approval from the Chancellor. * Work collaboratively with the Chancellor's Cabinet, University Officers, Academic Deans, Program Directors, and Unit Leaders to provide budget advice and feedback. * Consult with various governance groups on budget matters and processes. * Actively present budget information to a variety of audiences. * Collaborate with the UW System Administration Budget Office on procedures and budget processes, participating in systemwide working groups as opportunities arise. * Ensure campus is in compliance with the position control figures provided by the UW System. * Develop procedures for cross-training of budget staff. * Hire, train, and evaluate budget office staff., Special Notes:, Some travel, including overnight, will be required. Education Required: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's Degree in Business or a related field at time of application * Seven years of experience in a supervisory/management role PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Knowledge of government and financial reporting principals * Knowledge of UW-System policies and procedures
