Job Description: WORKING TITLE: Assistant Director/Advisor - TRiO and Precollege UW SYSTEM TITLE: Student Services Program Manager I POSTING DATE: November 26, 2012 POSITION NUMBER: A068 START DATE: February 18, 2013 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The position of Assistant Director/Advisor - TRiO and Precollege will provide student-centered programming, advising, field experiences, and summer residential programs to targeted high school populations. Programs are focused on high school completion as well as preparation for enrollment, academic success, and completion of a postsecondary degree in science, technology, engineering or math (STEM). This position will report to the Director of TRiO and Precollege programs. This position will include the following responsibilities: * Develop and implement both academic year and summer service packages to include oversight of online coursework during the academic year and logistical planning for residential experience, a college readiness course, and educational/recreational/cultural field trips. * Supervise staff throughout the service year including a clerical position and tutors. * Hire, train and supervise summer residence hall staff. * Create and manage a comprehensive travel budget for follow-up trips during the academic year and summer that is inclusive of all logistical elements needed for the staff and student participants. * Recruit, select, and advise cohorts of eligible high school aged participants from target high schools, including advising as they prepare for enrollment in a postsecondary experience. * Assist with the reporting of services and achievement of stated program objectives. * Assist with data collection, analysis, program modification and grant renewal materials., SPECIAL NOTES: Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends is required. Travel to various activities (including overnight) and to schools served by the grant is expected. Home visits to work with families and students is expected. Education Required: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor's degree in human services, education or a related field at time of application PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Master's degree * Experience in academic advising, counseling, college admission or financial aid * Experience with grant or federally-funded education programs * Experience with budgeting, planning, and logistical management of group activities and travel * Experience in hiring, training, and supervising part-time staff * Experience in overcoming barriers similar to those encountered by low-income, academically disadvantaged or underrepresented students * Experience working with low-income, academically disadvantaged or underrepresented students * Experience in standardized testing and test preparation
