Job Description: The Payroll Supervisor will manage and guarantee weekly disbursement of multi-state payroll, including garnishments, benefits and taxes to 5,000 employees consistent with federal and multiple state wage and hour laws. Ensure the processing of new hires, temporary workers, transfers, promotions and terminations is accurate and timely. Supervise payroll staff, including payroll specialists and labor collection assistants, Critically review and analyze current payroll, benefits and tax procedures in order to recommend and implement changes leading to best-practice operations, Audit W-4s, payroll balance sheets, YTD earnings, etc. Ensure systems are set-up and updated to reflect our current employee base, including wages, benefits, sick and vacation time in line with contracts (union and non-union) Manage regular preparation of relevant management reports, including weekly, monthly, quarterly and year-end reports (gross payroll, hours worked, vacation accrual, tax deductions, benefit deductions, etc.), Reconciles account balances for the purpose of maintaining accurate account balances and complying with related policies, practices and/or regulations. Qualified candidates will have:, • 5-7 years experience managing a multi-state payroll department, including staff • Extensive knowledge of ADP preferred, • Proficient at MS Office (especially Excel) • Working experience of payroll tax at the federal, state and local levels • Ability to manage and lead staff to excellent performance • Must be a team player • Must be highly organized • Prior system conversion experience, a plus • Ability to interpret Union Contracts, a plus, In addition, the Payroll Supervisor will need to drive improvements in the payroll function to meet established deadlines, ensure timely reporting and payment of the employer’s and employee’s withholding taxes and miscellaneous withholdings to appropriate agencies and have strong written and verbal communication skills; appropriately communicates with all levels of customers from assistants to Sr. Executives., Credentials should also include being well versed in Excel, Access and Word and strongly proactive in accomplishing tasks within required deadlines. Previous HR/HRIS experience is a defined plus.
