Job Description: The role of the Sr. Designer - Structural is to create the detail design documentation using the functional design documentation previously developed for the various Structural systems for the ship design assigned project. In fulfilling this function the Structural Designer is to develop ship production related deliverables (i.e. production drawings and mfg workpacks) and exhibit the capability to assist Manufacturing in the resolution of production related issues. The Structural Designer is to assist the Lead Structural Engineer in developing a cost effective detail design., The Structural Designer must be able to motivate, set expectations as required to achieve project goals and objectives. Personal competencies must include strong technical skills in the field of shipboard structural design supplemented by a clear understanding of schedule and budget requirements. The successful candidate must exhibit time management skills complemented by the ability to prioritize problem solving/issues resolving activities so as to maximize achievement of goals and objectives. In addition, must have the drive and discipline to monitor, and maintain, existing department policies and procedures., The qualified candidate must have an Associate degree from an accredited junior or technical college with an emphasis in mechanical design or drafting. This requirement can also be met thru the possession of a High School diploma plus 5 years of experience in drafting. The Sr. Structural Designer must have the ability to utilize MMC’s primary Structural System Design Tools; Auto Cad 2D and 3D 2008 or later. ARL’s Ship Constructor Design Suite (including nesting) 2009 or later, Bentley Explorer, Ship Cam, and BAAN IV MRP system tools. The ability to use certain software packages associated with the Microsoft Office Suite is required as well (Word and Excel). In addition to these drafting skills the Senior Structural designer must have a minimum of 5 years of Ship Board Structural design experience using ARL’s Ship Constructor Design Package and familiarity with Regulatory Body Requirements associated with the ship building industry (i.e. ABS, 46 CFR and the US Coast Guard. The successful candidate will have the ability to interpret customer specifications as related to Structural System requirements into detail design documentation.
