Job Description: POSITION NUMBER: F074 START DATE: August 22, 2013 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Department of Public and Environmental Affairs offers two undergraduate majors: 1) Public Administration and 2) Environmental Policy and Planning. The department is also instrumental in support of the Political Science major, and is highly involved with the graduate program in Environmental Science and Policy as well as the certificate program in Environmental Sustainability and Business, and a minor in Global Studies. The position of Assistant Professor of Political Science will include the following responsibilities: * Teach a course load of 21 credits per academic year including courses in American government and politics, Congress and/or Presidency, regulatory policy and administration, and environmental/natural resources policy. * Also teach at least one course from the following list: public and nonprofit budgeting, introduction to public administration, human resources and leadership, or urban politics and policy. * Perform scholarly activities consistent with rank. * Advise students. * Perform institutional service and contribute to the ongoing development of the department.

Education Required: REQUIRED: * Doctorate in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Affairs, Public Policy, or closely related field from an accredited institution; will consider ABD candidates with the expectation that the degree is completed by the end of the first contract year. * Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship. * Commitment to undergraduate education. * Communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively in an interdisciplinary program with a diverse array of students and colleagues.
Experience Required: PREFERRED: * Ability to teach social science statistics and/or research methods. * Experience and/or interest in environmental policy, public administration, and nonprofit management.
